9:00 AM General Liability Trusts Overview
Description: As inflation increases the price of materials, labor, and homes that general contractors are working on, it is important for contractors to ensure they have the right amount of coverage limits.
General liability coverage can safeguard the contractor from lawsuits, mishaps, and property damage claims. Scenarios will be discussed to illustrate where the contractor or his/her employees cause injury, death, or property damage to a third-party during work and the types of general liability that will benefit them. The class will cover medical expenses, legal defense costs, and damages they may incur. The class will assist students in determining the right amount and type of coverage and share considerations such as the size of the projects, the number of employees, subcontractor relationships, and the types of materials used all play a role in determining coverage needs.
9:30 AM Anatomy of a Claim
Description: Understanding the stages of a claim can help contractors stay organized, provide relevant information and advocate for a fair resolution. The class will focus on reporting and initial contact with claims professionals. It will cover the evaluation process which involves collecting facts, consulting with involved parties and resolution of payment for damages.
10:00 AM Business Software: What Do You ACTUALLY Need to Run Your Business
Description: Nancy will provide high-level overviews of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, QuickBooks and alternatives, CRMs and marketing options, and Project Management software. Also discussed will be how to evaluate your company's software needs, when is it time to "right-size" and how to work with partner/consultants. The hot topic of AI will be discussed briefly.
Bio: Nancy is currently the Director of Accounting for Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans, HBA PAC and the Home & Garden Show. Nancy has over twenty-five years of accounting experience, specializing in business software and job cost accounting. Software expert in ERP and CRM applications, report building and business intelligence (BI) applications and is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
11:00 AM Connections for High Wind Resistant Construction
Description: There are precautions builders can take to limit the damage caused by high-wind events. The course is designed to teach about industry’s most comprehensive line of wood construction connectors and fasteners specifically designed to resist uplift and lateral forces caused by high winds. Class will focus on fasteners, corrosion resistance, installations, and solutions. It will review mis-installations when using connectors and fasteners for wind resistant construction.
Instructor: Mr. Sidney Montecino is the Sr. Territory Sales Manager for Louisiana for Simpson Strong-Tie Company, where he has been employed for over 28 years. He is responsible for the day-to-day sales and marketing efforts in his territory. This includes interacting with both product suppliers and specifiers including engineers, architects, city code officials, general contractors, builders, and farmers. He collaborates with all levels of decision makers through product training, value engineering exercises, and building code education. Mr. Sidney Montecino is currently listed as a CEU provider with the State Licensing Board.

1:00 PM Louisiana Uniform Construction Code and Resilience
Description: The class will educate individuals in the building industry about the state-adopted uniform building codes which are state-wide. Students will become familiar with standards of construction in buildings and other structures in Louisiana which benefit the health, safety and welfare of its citizens.
Instructor: Randy Noel--Mr. Noel is president and CEO of Reve, Inc. in LaPlace, Louisiana. He has been a recipient of the
National Home Builders Association Hall of Fame in 2025 and served as the National Home Builders Association Chair in 2018. He served as Secretary of Home innovations Research Labs, was recipient of the LHBA Hall of Fame, served as Council Chair of the Louisiana Statewide Uniform Construction Code from 2006-2010. Mr. Noel is currently a Trustee on LHBA General Liability Indemnity Board Chair of HUD Resiliency Document Committee.
2:00 PM How to Lessen Contractor Liability
Description: The class will discuss various clauses to assist contractors in their contractual relations with their clients. Students will become familiar with legal issues that impact them regarding their written agreements.
Instructor: Ms. Sharon Kyle’s principal areas of practice include construction litigation, business dispute/contract litigation, debt collection and administrative licensing matters. Sharon has litigated construction and debt collection matters in both state and federal courts throughout Louisiana. Sharon has dedicated her practice to Louisiana’s construction industry. Sharon is a licensed contractor and a property developer as well as a lawyer and remains actively involved in the construction business she co-founded with her husband and their real estate development projects.
3:00 PM OSHA & HR Training for Contractors
Description: The one-hour course is designed to help contractors to understand the critical role of OSHA compliance in protecting both the workers and the operations of their businesses. The class offers practical guidance on how to access and apply OSHA resources to reduce workplace health and safety risks, to improve compliance and to support a culture of prevention in the building industry.
